New Year, A Stronger Community.

2025: A Stronger Community.🧑

Hello Reader,

Over the past year, Crescent Kids has grown tremendously – from expanding our support networks to launching new projects aimed at improving the quality of life for children living with Sickle Cell.

I know we have been AWOL (Away With Out Leave) but we have been working tremendously to STOP THE PAIN. We are more committed than ever to supporting children with Sickle Cell and Thalassemia, empowering families, and driving impactful change in healthcare. To begin with, we would like to share that we were spotlighted on VAC.uk newsletter.

Spotlight: Crescent Kids in the News

Recently, Crescent Kids was featured in a VAC Charity Spotlight, highlighting the work we do to raise awareness and provide support for families navigating Sickle Cell Disease. In case you missed it, here’s a snippet:

Crescent Kids started when our founder, Funmi Vanessa Ulam, faced the realities of Sickle Cell Disease firsthand. From navigating hospital visits to understanding the gaps in healthcare support, she built a community-driven initiative to ensure that no parent or child feels alone in this journey. Today, Crescent Kids operates globally, providing care packages, educational resources, and a strong support system for families.

Join Our Focus Groups & Shape the Future

This year, we are taking an active role in research to improve healthcare outcomes for children with Sickle Cell. In collaboration with UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health and NIHR, we are co-leading the CARES Research Project, which focuses on understanding how Sickle Cell affects children's quality of life.

We are hosting focus groups in key cities across the UK:

πŸ“ 22nd February – London
πŸ“ 28th February – Manchester
πŸ“ 8th March – Birmingham

If you are a parent or caregiver of a child with Sickle Cell, we encourage you to join us and share your story. To register, email your name and preferred location to ichppp.cares@ucl.ac.uk.

What’s Next for Crescent Kids?

This year, we are launching exciting new initiatives, including:

  • The Eli Health App – A first-of-its-kind mobile app designed for children and caregivers, focusing on wellness and pain management.
  • Expanding our support programs to reach more families globally.
  • Collaborating with healthcare professionals to advocate for better policies and funding for Sickle Cell research.

As always, we couldn’t do this without you – our incredible community of parents, caregivers, donors, and supporters. Let’s continue making a difference together!
